This is a lot to digest and I'm gonna need to think this through. Most of the time I'm focused internally when I'm deliberately practicing, on what I should be "trying to feel." Is your "stick on the lip" drill an example of an external cue? As in "hit the stick with your back tire as you press into the face of the jump?"
Butch, the stick on the lip drill is typically an external drill because the object of your attention is in the environment. But it again gets tricky.
If I said to you, "Next time, notice where you feel it when your rear wheel hits the stick" then your attention shifts to the sensation in your feet.
And if I said to you, "Next time notice if your front wheel is rising or falling when your rear wheel hits the stick" then your attention shifts to your equipment - the front wheel.
And if I said to you, "How much of a hip hinge do you have when your front wheel hits the stick" then your attention shifts to a completely internal focus.

So yeah, it's a lot to digest!
