Assessing and developing your MTB practice habit, Part 1
Take the poll and quiz in the next 24 hours; Part 2 will be published tomorrow
I'm curious about your current MTB practice frequency, the reasons for it, and your desire to continue with it or change it. (The poll and quiz below expire in 24 hours so take them soon. I’ll publish Part 2 of this post tomorrow.)
As recreational mountain bikers, we differ in practice-related motivation, goals, and habits. But our life situations matter.
For example, we might want to practice several times a week, but our responsibilities and other interests might rule that out.
My practice frequency
I'm a part-time skills coach at RLC Online MTB Coaching. During the warmer months, I'm either trying to learn new skills or improve my consistency and level of proficiency with existing skills. So I often practice 2-3 times per week, plus some sessioning whenever I ride a trail or visit a bike park. (See my Strava profile here.)
But I enjoy various winter sports here in Minnesota (fat biking, snowboarding, skating, snowshoeing, and sledding with my young granddaughters). Unless I'm working on a technical or trials-type skill in my garage, I cut back on outdoor practicing during winter. (See my Stava photos of a recent winter wonderland fat bike ride here.)
Practice frequency poll:
Sharp-eyed readers will likely notice that I published a similar practice frequency poll 7 months ago. I noted at the bottom of that post that would “keep working on the post(s) for practice-related motivation, goals, and habits.” This is one of those follow-up posts.
Practice frequency explanation:
What's your situation that explains the frequency of your practice? Say something about your desire to continue with this frequency or change it. Add a comment below.
Quiz:
I’ll publish Part 2 tomorrow, so take the poll and quiz ASAP. If you don’t, no biggie.
I generally aim to practice more but life often gets in the way - tired from a big day at work or an unexpected call or meeting at the wrong time, aches and pains, weather, hangovers or sometimes just the temptation of the hammock, a good book and a beer.
Not often enough
BUT I am making a dedicated effort to try and change this in the next month by
Creating a goal
Writing it down
Logging thoughts and progress
All of these inspired by you, Griff
